About Us

Our dogs live in our home with our family and our other pets, so it is important that these dogs are well-behaved, gentle, and predictable.  If this is not the case, a dog cannot live here, or more importantly, it will not be bred. (These dogs are spayed/neutered and placed in appropriate homes.) We want you to be 100% happy with your Kirby Mountain dog, so we work hard to match you with the appropriate dog.  Whether you buy a dog in order to hunt, hike, fish, bike, canoe, walk, run, sail, or to cuddle, hug, or play with, we want our dog to become a member of your family.

By breeding, raising, and training a variety of sporting dogs we are able to observe each breed’s strengths.  By speaking with you about your expectations and needs, we can recommend the best dog for you.  In the field our dogs show a combination of energetic performance and extreme natural ability.  Our dogs are field dogs from champion lines that have proven their health and performance over generations of competition and hunting.

About 80% of the dogs we train have been bred from our lines here at Kirby Mountain Sporting Dogs.  This means we are able to see how well they work, and we are able to evaluate our breeding program on a continuing basis.  Some of our clients choose to compete with Kirby Mountain dogs at NHRA and AKC hunt test, at bird trials, and even in the show ring.  Clients place titles on Kirby Mountain dogs in agility testing and obedience trials. Most recently, a Kirby Mountain dog became a graduate of the Vermont Police Academy.  Whether a client chooses to compete, hunt, or breed a Kirby Mountain dog, our focus is to breed intelligent and easily trained dogs that provide years of companionship and pleasure for their owners.  With our focus on breeding intelligence and trainability, a small percentage of our dogs have been used solely as working dogs:  by professional guides and by different facilities to chase nuisance birds.

For the lifetime of your Kirby Mountain sporting dog, you can give us a call or schedule a time to visit, watch training, or receive an evaluation.  In addition, if you have a favorite picture of your dog or dogs, drop us a note—we literally have hundreds of photos, but we always love more!
